Recent Advances in Classical Algebraic Geometry

Krakow is one of the main academic centers in Poland, home to important academic institutions like Jagiellonian University, the Pedagogical University of Cracow, Cracow University of Technology, AGH University of Science and Technology, and the National Science Centre. It is also one of the country’s main tourist attractions.

The city boasts cultural sites, hotels, restaurants, and much more. It has also hosted several high profile mathematical events in recent years, including the 6th European Congress of Mathematics in July 2012 and the 100th anniversary meeting of the Polish Mathematical Society in September 2019, making it an ideal spot for an ICM satellite conference.

Classical algebraic geometry is a subject represented by many researchers around the world. A large and influential conference devoted solely to this field is held in Oberwolfach every three years, with the next one scheduled for June 2021. Many researchers from Poland also work in this field, so a satellite ICM conference will be an excellent platform for presenting recent developments and exchanging ideas. Krakow also has a history of organizing scientific events devoted to algebraic geometry, such as the EMS Satellite Conference on Arithmetic and Algebraic Geometry in 2012, the Jubilee of the 100th Anniversary of the Polish Mathematical Society in 2019, and workshops devoted to linear series and algebraic surfaces organized in 2016 and 2018.
